Finally, Windows 11 Will Support RAR Format Natively

Microsoft has announced a new project that will be integrated into Windows 11 in the near future. As previously rumored, this project heavily involves artificial intelligence, which is currently booming.

One of these features is Windows Copilot, an AI assistant that will replace the functions of Cortana. Microsoft seems to be taking AI seriously, as they recently released Bing Chat, which is integrated with ChatGPT.

Windows 11 Will Support RAR Format and Other Compression Formats Natively

Amidst the multitude of news about Copilot, there is one piece of news that may have gone unnoticed: Windows 11 will support RAR format and several other compression formats natively. This news comes from the recently released Windows Developer Blog by Microsoft.

Not only RAR, but formats like 7-zip, tar, and gz will also be natively supported in Windows 11 thanks to the open-source libarchive project. This means users will no longer need to install WinRAR or other third-party software to compress or decompress data.

Making the Windows Context Menu Neat and Tidy

This addition has been well received by Windows users, as such a simple feature should have been implemented long ago. Although it may be late, it’s better late than never.

While this small feature may seem insignificant, it is one that should have been added to enhance the ease of operation in the Windows system.

Microsoft finally adding support for a format that has been around for 30 years took 12 versions of Windows to become a reality. With this, everything will appear more natural, at least for a neater context menu, as there will no longer be a need to install third-party software. Of course, WinRAR and similar applications have played a significant role in helping us extract files and data for the past few decades.
