Google is indeed famous for its search engine and Android software. In recent years, they also ventured into the Cloud Gaming industry, specifically in 2019. However, as we know, they failed to capture a significant portion of the market which is currently dominated by NVIDIA through the GeForce NOW service.
The closure of their Stadia service earlier this year in January does not seem to indicate the end of their focus on the gaming industry. As you probably know, Google is one of the major players in the Cloud industry.
Although Google Stadia has closed down, it doesn’t mean they’re giving up on gaming altogether.
This means they actually have other ways to continue to survive in the gaming industry. And it seems true, even without Stadia, they still have other plans.
In a report by Axios, Google seems to be maintaining its presence in the gaming world through Google Cloud services. In the future, the tech giant will assist other major players (meaning developers or publishers) in developing live-service games using Cloud services.
Google seems to be aware that they still have a lot to learn from their failures and will allocate more resources to help others. This tactic allows them to sell Cloud services such as servers, Cloud storage data management, and data analytics.
Starting to Focus More on Live Service Games
However, Alphabet is still not providing Cloud streaming services like what Stadia did on their future services. This is because the service has already been integrated into Stadia and they have moved on from that business.
As for the impact on the game as a service industry in the future, we still have to wait for the response from the games. Considering that game as a service itself has a not-so-good image among gamers so far.
