A Glimpse into A17 Bionic Chipset: Unveiling 6GB RAM and an Additional GPU Core

Apple is on the brink of introducing its all-new A17 Bionic chipset, poised to grace the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Series. With the launch date potentially just around the corner – likely within a month – crucial details regarding this chipset have emerged, shedding light on its core count, clock speed, and RAM capacity.

In the realm of the latest rumors, courtesy of the reputable leaker Unknownz21, the A17 Bionic chipset is set to embrace a 6-core CPU accompanied by an equally impressive 6-core GPU. In direct comparison, the current A16 Bionic chipset boasts a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU. The implication here is the anticipated inclusion of an additional GPU core for the eagerly awaited iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max editions.

Shifting focus to clock speeds, the A17 Bionic is projected to reach an impressive maximum of 3.70GHz. This marks a noticeable improvement over the A16 Bionic powering the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models from the previous year, which capped at a maximum of 3.46 GHz.

When it comes to RAM, the grapevine suggests that the A17 Bionic will house a 6GB capacity, aligning with the memory configuration of its predecessor, the A16 Bionic. This time around, the RAM will adopt the LPDDR5 type. It’s important to contrast this with earlier reports hinting at an upward leap to an 8GB RAM capacity for the A17 Bionic.

Notably, in a response, Unknownz21 shared that they have encountered evidence of 6GB RAM thus far. However, they did offer a note of consideration: the possibility of an 8GB RAM capacity for the A17 Bionic isn’t entirely dismissed, albeit accompanied by some personal reservations.

Although the A17 Bionic doesn’t tout an 8-core CPU akin to several Android counterparts, its boosted clock speed, added GPU core, and the 3nm fabrication process by TSMC together hold the promise of elevated performance and efficiency compared to its predecessor, the A16 Bionic, which has already showcased commendable swiftness.

As anticipated, the A17 Bionic is slated to take the reins as the powerhouse for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus editions are poised to inherit the A17 Bionic chipset that has already found its place within the iPhone 14 Pro Series.
