Apple Introduces Final Cut Pro Video Editing App to iPad

Apple has officially released their flagship video editing app, Final Cut Pro, for the iPad. Additionally, the music composer app, Logic Pro, will also be available on Apple’s tablet device. Both apps will be available on the iPadOS App Store starting May 23, 2023.

Final Cut Pro can only be installed on iPads with M1 or M2 chipsets, while Logic Pro is compatible with a minimum A12 Bionic chipset specification. However, you will need iPadOS 16.4 to install both of these apps.

Unlike the macOS version, which has a buy-once model, these two exclusive Apple apps are offered through a subscription system on iPadOS. The subscription cost is $4.99 per month or $49 per year, with a 1-month free trial for those who want to try it out before subscribing.

The features remain the same, but Apple has added some new elements specifically tailored for iPadOS, particularly to adapt to touch screen usage. For example, in Final Cut Pro, there is a new jog wheel for easier navigation, clip movement, and more.

There is also a Live Drawing feature that allows users to draw and write directly on videos using the Apple Pencil. Additionally, on iPads with the M2 chipset, the Apple Pencil can be used to preview video footage without touching the screen.

Meanwhile, Logic Pro on iPadOS also supports multi-touch gestures and the Apple Pencil. Users can also directly record sound or instruments through the built-in microphone on the iPad for editing within the music composer app.

Indirectly, the introduction of Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro is Apple’s response after Davinci Resolve, a professional video editing software, released their app on iPadOS in 2022. Which one would you choose for video editing on the iPad?
