Apple is set to make a significant software splash with the simultaneous release of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 on September 18, 2023. This big news came as part of the “Wonderlust” event, where Apple also introduced the iPhone 15 Series. The anticipation has been building for these updates, and it’s finally time for users to get their hands on them. But just which devices are going to be eligible for these upgrades?
The journey towards iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 began at Apple’s WWDC event on June 5, 2023. After rigorous testing through multiple Beta phases, Apple is now ready to unleash these operating systems globally.
iOS 17 introduces a slew of new features, with “Contact Poster” being one of the standout additions. This feature allows users to display full-screen images for their contacts during phone calls, adding a personal touch to communication.
FaceTime video calls and Messages have also received significant improvements, enhancing the overall user experience. Furthermore, updates have been made to AirDrop, NameDrop, autocorrect, dictation, privacy measures, AirPlay, Apple Music, Safari browser, StandBy mode, and the introduction of a brand-new app called “Journal.” Notably, iOS 17 now offers users the option to activate Siri without using the “hey” wake word.
On the iPad front, iPadOS 17 presents a fresh, customizable Lock Screen featuring interactive widgets, enabling users to tailor their experience to their liking. Reading PDF documents and managing Notes have become more user-friendly with an updated layout. Additionally, Apple has extended the functionality of the Health app to the iPad.
For those eager to know if their devices are eligible, both iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 will commence their worldwide rollout on September 18, 2023. iOS 17 will be compatible with iPhone X and newer models, including the second-generation iPhone SE.
As for iPadOS 17, it will be available for the sixth-generation iPad, fifth-generation iPad Mini, third-generation iPad Air, and second-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Owners of newer iPad models can also rest assured, as they are confirmed to receive the benefits of iPadOS 17.
