The anticipated launch of the Apple Vision Pro outside the US is gaining traction, with China poised to join the roster of countries where the innovative device will be available. According to a recent report from local media sources, consumers in China can expect the headset to hit the market as early as April or by May at the latest.
While the information stems from undisclosed “supply chain sources,” it aligns with Apple CEO Tim Cook’s earlier statement during the headset’s unveiling in New York, affirming its imminent arrival in the Chinese market. However, there’s a twist in the branding strategy as the device may not bear the name “Vision Pro” in China. Instead, due to an ongoing trademark dispute, Apple might opt to utilize the Reality brand.
This dispute traces back to Huawei’s filing for the Vision Pro trademark in China, leading to an exclusive usage period granted from November 28, 2021, to November 27, 2031. Despite the potential rebranding, the headset’s official certification for sale in China is nearing completion, with public databases likely to reflect this development upon finalization.
Interestingly, insights into the device’s bill of materials suggest a cost estimate of around $1,700, roughly half its retail price. However, prospective buyers should brace for limited availability, particularly with the initial batch of units set to hit Chinese shelves. Future releases may alleviate this constraint, but for now, eager consumers will need to exercise patience as they await further updates.
