In the modern era, people are undoubtedly familiar with WiFi. However, did you know that LiFi technology is set to become the new standard for internet connectivity in the future, where WiFi will be left behind?
LiFi to Replace WiFi as the Standard for Internet Connectivity
Since its launch in the 1990s and gaining popularity in the 2000s, it seems that now is the right moment to retire WiFi and replace it with a more modern technology.
According to tom’sHardware, LiFi, or Light Fidelity, was recently introduced by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). This 802.11bb type of internet connection is touted to replace WiFi, which is now considered less relevant in the current era.
Unlike WiFi, LiFi technology is said to utilize light as a medium to deliver internet connectivity that is reportedly much faster and more stable.
Safer and Unmatched Speed
As we know, there are currently various internet connectivity options available, including WiFi and 5G. Although both of these types of connections are capable of meeting human needs, it seems that there will be a new standard in the future through LiFi.
It is also stated that the speed of this light-based connection is at least a hundred times faster, safer, and more stable compared to all the types of connections we currently use.
Based on the video excerpt from Fraunhofer HHI above, the working principle of this connectivity is explained by utilizing light without the interference commonly experienced in WiFi and 5G connectivity, which are commonly used today.
Security assurance is also highlighted by this light-based connection. As shown in the video, light cannot penetrate walls, ensuring that all your data remains within your space and providing a more controlled level of security.
However, it is still unclear how this technology will become the new standard in the future because, although it is fast, its implementation does not seem to be happening in the near future.
