This counterfeiting operation was found to have taken place in Bincheng District, Binzhou City, China. The Bincheng Police became suspicious of the activity after noticing unusual activities in one of the buildings, which turned out to be the den for these illegal operations.

The police discovered several units suspected to be the work of Cryptominers. Some of these used units were found to have undergone intensive use and had been repainted to be resold with packaging resembling new products.

According to the statement from Bincheng Police, they found that the perpetrators operated in different ‘teams,’ with each team responsible for refurbishing the used GPUs. Some teams were in charge of sourcing and collecting used units, cleaning & rechecking the functionality of the units, while others handled repackaging the used units to make them look new.

Undoubtedly, this illegal activity was further reinforced by the sale of used units successfully entering the market, causing harm to consumers who wanted new units. There is also a high possibility that some of these units have made their way into retail stores out there.

Out of the 22 individuals involved in the GPU counterfeiting, only 7 will face criminal sanctions.

The raid conducted by Bincheng Police is considered successful in halting the operation of these GPU counterfeiting individuals. The estimated loss is around 2 million USD.

From the arrests made, only 7 individuals will be prosecuted in court. This counterfeiting attempt is hoped to serve as a lesson for those who might try to engage in similar illegal activities.
