Google Camera version 8.8 provides Pixel 6 users with faster and better Night Sight feature.

The feature included in the Pixel March Feature Drop for the Pixel 6 series is an improved Night Sight feature, which was already part of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro straight out of the box.

However, as usual, Google can develop algorithms that allow the 2021 Pixel models to get something that was only available for the newer 2022 phones.

Google does this all the time and did it with Magic Eraser, which removes distractions from photos, and added it to all Pixel models.

It also took the Direct My Call feature, a refined version of the Pixel 7 series, and added it to the Pixel 4a (5G) to the Pixel 6 lineup.

It displays on-screen all the options available to someone calling a business (press 1 for customer service, press 2 for accounting, press 3 to make a payment) even before the automated recording listing the options begins to play.

The Pixel Night Sight feature is used to take pictures in low light conditions without having to turn on the flash.

Pixel 6 series users who have the Google Camera app version 8.8 now have an improved Night Sight.

Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro users will see an improvement as their Night Sight photos have “less motion blur as the exposure can be half of what it was before.”

Google says, “And Night Sight now only takes half of the normal exposure time to produce beautiful low-light photos that are sharper than ever.”

By tapping the Night Sight tab, tapping the button on the bottom right of the screen will allow you to choose between 1, 2, or 3-second exposure times or Max which usually reaches 6 seconds depending on lighting conditions.

So it’s up to you whether you want a faster exposure time or a longer exposure time for better image quality.

Either way, the exposure time will be much shorter for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro users than what they had to deal with in the first generation Night Sight.

This means that Pixel 6 series users taking photos using Night Sight no longer need to try and hold the camera steady for the usual long exposure time to get a sharp Night Sight photo.

This writer’s Pixel 6 Pro runs on QPR3 Beta 1, and the Google Camera app version on my phone is version 8.8.

To check the app version you have, open Settings > Apps and tap See all xxx apps.

Scroll down to the Camera app, and at the very bottom of that page, it will show you the version of the Google Camera app that you have.
