Are you aware that in the last week, Google has started displaying ads on the Google Play Store? These ads appear on the front page, search column, and search results page.
Actually, this is not new as Google had tested it back in November 2022. However, it seems that the US-based internet giant is now applying it to all users.
When you open the Google Play Store, you will be presented with “limited-time events” ads in the form of banners from promoted apps. Below it, there are also ads in the form of a list of recommendations for either Game or App tabs.
In addition, ads also appear when you open the Google Play Store search column, with two recommended apps. However, when you type a search query, the ad will disappear.
Nevertheless, the ad will appear again in the search results list that will display similar promoted apps. There will be three recommended apps labeled “Ads” at the top position.
Google Follows in Apple’s Footsteps?
Google is not the first to implement ads in their app store. Looking back, it was Apple that initiated the practice of inserting ads in various built-in apps, including the App Store, Email, Podcasts, and others.
However, Google’s move is not surprising, of course. Google itself is very familiar with ads in various services, including Google Search or YouTube.
But for ads directly on their built-in apps on Android, this seems to be just the beginning for Google. It is possible that other apps will also be inserted with ads.
