Google is introducing three advanced anti-theft features for Android users to enhance device protection and prevent theft. These features provide better control over lost or stolen phones, even in situations where the user may not have access to typical security tools.
The first feature, Remote Lock, allows users to lock their smartphones remotely using their phone number. What’s unique about this feature is that it can still be activated even if the Find My Device feature is disabled or if the user cannot log into their Google account. This gives users more flexibility and control when they’ve lost access to standard recovery methods.
The second feature, Offline Device Lock, locks the smartphone when a thief attempts to disconnect it from the internet for an extended period. This ensures that even without a network connection, the phone remains secure and cannot be tampered with. It offers peace of mind in situations where thieves often try to go offline to avoid being tracked.
Lastly, Theft Detection Lock is the most advanced of the three. This feature uses artificial intelligence (AI) and the phone’s sensors to detect suspicious movements. For example, if the phone is suddenly snatched from a user’s hand or carried away by a vehicle like a bike or car, the phone will automatically lock itself, restricting access to apps and data. This feature is designed to respond quickly to theft-related activities and prevent unauthorized access in real-time.
Although it is not yet clear which smartphones will receive these features first, users are encouraged to check if their Google Play Services are updated to the latest version to ensure compatibility when the features are rolled out. These new tools are expected to significantly help users safeguard their devices and personal information against theft.
