Huawei is set to launch their own version of an AI chatbot called “PanGu Chat,” which will rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT, especially in the Chinese market. The official launch is scheduled for July 7, 2023, at the Huawei Cloud Developer Conference.
According to Gizmochina, PanGu Chat will initially be available for businesses and enterprises. Huawei plans to offer PanGu Chat to consumers in the government and enterprise sectors.
PanGu Chat is expected to be based on the PanGu-Σ (Sigma) language model with 1.085 trillion parameters. This parameter count is equivalent to GPT-4, which is also rumored to have one trillion parameters, although accessing it in ChatGPT requires the Plus version.
The PanGu language model itself has a first version called PanGu-α (Alpha), introduced in 2021 with 200 billion parameters. Meanwhile, its second iteration, PanGu-Σ (Sigma), was introduced in 2022.
Currently, PanGu has several products (modules), including NLP, CV, and scientific computing (meteorological). PanGu NLP is used for public opinion analysis and marketing, PanGu CV for intelligent inspection and logistics in industries, while PanGu meteorological is used for real-time and accurate weather prediction.
