Apple has announced a significant step towards becoming an environmentally friendly company. The Cupertino giant is committed to using 100 percent recycled cobalt as a material for manufacturing their device batteries by 2025.
Cobalt is a crucial ingredient in the production of lithium batteries used in electronic products. In 2022, Apple already used 25 percent recycled cobalt, which increased by 13 percent from the previous year. However, Apple aims to make it 100 percent within the next two years.
In addition, Apple also announced that magnets in various devices will be made entirely from recycled materials, including circuit boards that use recycled tin solder and gold. The goal is to become a carbon-free company from end to end by 2030.
Apple has already implemented various measures to achieve its “noble goal”, including the removal of battery adapters from sales packages. However, their efforts go beyond that.
Apple stated that 20 percent of the materials used in their devices were already recycled in 2022. This includes iPhone, Apple Watch, MacBook, and other devices.
