Is Satellite Connectivity Finally Coming to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Series?

The upcoming year 2024 might bring a significant addition to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Series: satellite connectivity features. Interestingly, this feature was noticeably absent from the previous generation Galaxy S23 Series, despite the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset’s compatibility.

Satellite connectivity has gained traction as a novel trend in flagship smartphones since Apple’s inclusion of it in the iPhone 14 Series late last year. Surprisingly, however, the Galaxy S23 Series lacked this feature when unveiled by Samsung earlier in 2023.

At the time of the launch, Samsung cited the lack of mature infrastructure as the reason for not introducing satellite connectivity to their flagship devices. Furthermore, incorporating such a feature posed its own set of challenges.

Presently, indications suggest that Samsung may be gearing up to introduce satellite connectivity to its upcoming flagship phone. In an interview with Yonhap News, South Korea’s Minister of Science and Technology, Lee Jong-ho, hinted that local smartphone brands are expected to establish connectivity between 5G-enabled phones and satellites by 2024.

Although not explicitly stated, the brand most likely alluded to is Samsung, given its status as the leading smartphone brand in South Korea and a strong contender to follow in the footsteps of Huawei.

For those not in the know, satellite connectivity in smartphones serves as an emergency communication tool. This functionality can prove invaluable in situations where users find themselves without cellular network coverage, enabling them to send urgent messages via satellite connectivity.
