MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Promises a 40% Boost in AI Performance

According to Taiwan’s Commercial Times, MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9400 chip is set to deliver a significant boost in AI performance. Reports indicate that it will offer up to 40% better AI capabilities compared to the Dimensity 9300, which already boasts an AI performance of 48 TOPS.

MediaTek’s CEO, Cai Lixing, revealed in a recent financial report that the Dimensity 9300 generated $1 billion in revenue for the company in 2023, contributing to a 70% increase in overall earnings. The Dimensity 9400, expected to be even more advanced, is anticipated to drive MediaTek’s revenue even higher.

Lixing also mentioned that the average selling price (ASP) of the Dimensity 9400 will be higher than its predecessor. This projection aligns with MediaTek’s expectations for increased revenue from their upcoming flagship chipset. However, this could also mean higher prices for smartphones using this new SoC.

Renowned leaker Digital Chat Station has reported that the vivo X200 series will be the first to feature this chip, followed by the OPPO Find X8 series. The Dimensity 9400 is expected to utilize TSMC’s second-generation N3 process and will likely include 1 Cortex-X5 core clocked at around 3.4GHz, 3 Cortex-X4 cores, and 4 Cortex-A720 cores.

The official announcement for the Dimensity 9400 is scheduled for Q4 2024, potentially coinciding with the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in late October. According to rumors, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is also expected to see a price increase.

With these impressive advancements, the Dimensity 9400 is shaping up to be a major player in the next generation of flagship smartphones, offering unparalleled AI performance and contributing to the ongoing evolution of mobile technology.
