Microsoft Teams Collaborates with Maybelline to Introduce AI Virtual Makeup

Microsoft Teams has unveiled an exciting new feature born from a partnership with the renowned cosmetic company, Maybelline. This collaboration will bring a collection of “virtual makeup” filters to Microsoft Teams, providing users with an experience akin to the appearance-changing effects commonly found on social media platforms.

Powered by cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technology from Modiface, an AR company specializing in the beauty industry, the “virtual makeup” filters offer a wide range of possibilities. Notably, in 2018, Maybelline’s parent company, L’Oreal, acquired Modiface, further solidifying their expertise in this domain.

Beyond merely focusing on aesthetics, Maybelline and Microsoft Teams have also joined forces with the Geena Davis Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting inclusion and diversity in media. Together, they are ensuring that the virtual makeup looks cater to diverse face types and populations.

Maybelline’s virtual makeup feature will present Teams users with an impressive selection of 12 unique looks, including various digital makeup colors and blur effects. Furthermore, each style will come with comprehensive details about the original Maybelline products and shades, allowing users to experiment with different makeup styles before deciding on a purchase.

While some might find the idea of beauty filters in a professional communication application like Microsoft Teams a bit unusual, the interest in utilizing this feature for work-related purposes is surprisingly high.

Although other video conferencing platforms like Zoom have already incorporated limited beauty effects, such as eyebrow and lipstick filters, Maybelline’s Beauty app in Microsoft Teams takes it a step further with additional options and customization, enticing users to explore its capabilities.

This incredible virtual makeup feature is set to be gradually rolled out to Microsoft Teams’ global Enterprise customers, starting today. Users will be able to access it conveniently through the “Video Effects” tab in the “Meet” settings. However, there is currently no confirmation regarding its availability for users on the free version of Microsoft Teams.

The introduction of the “virtual makeup” feature in Microsoft Teams is expected to boost user confidence during meetings and conferences, whether they are conducted in-person or virtually. It’s a powerful tool that will enhance video conferencing experiences and empower users to present their best selves.
