Nokia G42 Announced, Focuses on 5-Year Repair Support

HMD Global has just announced its latest Nokia smartphone, the Nokia G42, which falls into the mid-range category. Setting itself apart from the norm, this phone will be focused on providing repair support and ease of repair by partnering with iFixit, allowing users to repair OEM parts including the screen, battery, and charging port with support for up to 5 years.

The Nokia G42 is made from recycled plastic material and features a 6.56-inch IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It is powered by the Snapdragon 480+ processor with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, expandable via a MicroSD card.

The main camera setup consists of a 50MP f/1.8 primary sensor, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. For selfies, there is an 8MP front-facing camera housed in a waterdrop notch. The phone runs on Android 13 with major updates for up to two years and security updates for up to three years.

It packs a 5000mAh battery with 20W fast charging and is claimed to last up to 3 days with normal usage. The phone also has an IP52 rating for water and dust resistance and features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
