Not Mobile GPUs, MediaTek and NVIDIA Collaborate to Create Automotive Chipsets

At Computex 2023, MediaTek and NVIDIA announced their collaboration to develop automotive chipsets. MediaTek will leverage various NVIDIA technologies, including GPUs and AI, for the development of their next-generation automotive chipsets in the future.

Recently, there were rumors that MediaTek would collaborate with NVIDIA to develop something. Many speculated that the “something” referred to a GPU for Windows on Arm laptops. However, it turns out that the collaboration is aimed at creating chipsets to be used in smart cars.

Through this collaboration, MediaTek will develop their Dimensity Auto Platform with the integration of the latest NVIDIA GPU chiplets, NVIDIA AI, and NVIDIA’s graphics IP. Additionally, various software technologies such as NVIDIA Drive OS, Drive IX, CUDA, and TensorRT are also planned for integration.

MediaTek CEO, Rick Tsai, stated that the collaboration between these two technology giants will provide a comprehensive solution for the automotive industry, particularly smart vehicles. MediaTek, as a leading chipset company in the world, will combine its expertise with NVIDIA’s deep knowledge in AI and computing.

As of now, the exact timing of when the products resulting from the collaboration between MediaTek and NVIDIA will be announced has not been disclosed. So, let’s stay tuned for further developments.
