Fitbit smartwatches from Google, specifically the Sense and Versa 3 models, have been reported to experience overheating issues. Fortunately, Google has released a software update for both models to address the problem, and the tech giant is also offering a $50 compensation to affected users.
The Fitbit Sense (first generation) and Fitbit Versa 3 have the potential to overheat due to issues with their lithium-ion battery components under certain environmental conditions. In some severe cases, this could even cause burns on the wrist, though Google has made it clear that the risk of fatal injury from overheating remains low.
While the software update aims to minimize the overheating risk, it may also reduce battery capacity, resulting in shorter battery life and requiring users to charge their devices more frequently.
Google has stated that the software update must be installed manually. Those who don’t update their devices soon will see their devices automatically reset, causing all user data to be erased. During the setup process after the reset, the new firmware will be installed automatically.
In addition to the software update, Google is offering a $50 compensation, or the equivalent amount based on local currency. It’s worth noting that the Fitbit Sense and Versa 3 were officially available in Indonesia, although they are now discontinued, meaning the compensation applies to users in Indonesia as well.
