Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL: Same Features, Different Screen Sizes

Google has expanded its Pixel 9 lineup with the introduction of the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. While both models share nearly identical features and specifications, the primary difference between the two lies in their screen sizes. This approach allows Google to cater to different user preferences, offering the same high-end experience in two distinct form factors.

The Pixel 9 Pro comes with a 6.34-inch LTPO OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a peak brightness of 2,050 nits, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL features a larger 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 2992 x 1344 pixels and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. Both displays support a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring fluid animations and responsiveness, and are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, providing enhanced durability.

In addition to the display differences, both models are equipped with an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor, which detects fingerprints twice as fast as the previous optical sensors. This ensures quicker and more secure access to the device.

The camera systems on both devices remain identical, featuring a triple-camera setup with a 50MP main sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), a 58MP ultra-wide lens, and a 48MP telephoto lens with OIS and 5x optical zoom. The video recording capabilities have been upgraded, allowing for 8K recording at 30fps. The front-facing camera also sees a significant upgrade, now sporting a 42MP sensor for sharper selfies.

Both the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are powered by the Tensor G4 chipset, which includes a CPU configuration of 1x Cortex-X4, 3x Cortex-A720, and 4x Cortex-A520 cores, with a maximum clock speed of 3.1GHz. They also come with Google’s Titan M2 security chip and the new Exynos 5200 modem, which promises better efficiency and connectivity.

When it comes to memory and storage, both models are equipped with 16GB of RAM, providing ample power for multitasking and running demanding applications. Storage options range from 128GB to a whopping 1TB, giving users plenty of space for all their files and media.

The battery capacity differs slightly due to the screen sizes, with the Pixel 9 Pro housing a 4,700mAh battery, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL offers a larger 5,060mAh battery. Both models support fast charging at 45W, ensuring users can quickly recharge their devices when needed.

On the software front, both models run on Android 14 and come with the same AI features powered by Google’s Gemini AI, such as Magic Eraser, Best Take, and Pixel Studio. Additionally, both devices are promised seven years of OS updates, with the Pixel 9 series set to be the first to receive Android 15 when it launches.

In summary, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL provide the same top-tier experience, allowing users to choose the device that best fits their size preference. Whether you opt for the more compact Pixel 9 Pro or the larger Pixel 9 Pro XL, you’re guaranteed a powerful and feature-packed smartphone that’s built to last.
