Google is making waves with the upcoming release of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, set to hit the market in September 2024. This foldable device represents a significant upgrade over its predecessor, the Pixel Fold, with numerous enhancements in design, display, and internal specifications.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold comes with a striking redesign, including a new camera placement on the rear, shifting from the straight bar of the first Pixel Fold to a rectangular camera island. This redesign aims to give the device a more modern and sleek appearance. The device also sports a satin finish on its aluminum build and features a lighter and slimmer body, making it the thinnest foldable currently available in the U.S.

Under the hood, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is powered by Google’s Tensor G4 chip, coupled with 16GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The device is expected to deliver a solid performance boost over its predecessor, thanks to this upgraded hardware. The battery, while slightly smaller at 4,650mAh, promises over 24 hours of usage, supported by Android 14 and a commitment to seven years of software updates.
The device also includes advanced security features like the Titan M2 chip and built-in Google VPN. Notable AI-powered features such as “Pixel Screenshots” and “Video Boost” are also onboard, making full use of the foldable’s large display.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s camera system includes a 48MP main sensor, a 10.5MP ultrawide, and a 10.8MP 5x telephoto lens. While not as advanced as the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL cameras, it offers solid performance, with additional features like “Add Me” and “Made You Look,” which enhances photography on the foldable screen. Additionally, it includes dual 10MP selfie cameras on both the outer and inner displays for Face Unlock and video calls.
With its upgraded design, brighter display, and powerful internals, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is set to make a strong impression in the foldable market.
