Qualcomm and Apple Extend Their 5G Modem Partnership Until 2026

Apple has recently announced an extension of its partnership with Qualcomm concerning the use of Qualcomm’s 5G modems in its devices. This means that Apple will continue to rely on Qualcomm’s 5G modem technology at least until the year 2026.

This newly extended agreement encompasses the upcoming iPhone releases in 2024, 2025, and 2026. Initially, the partnership was set to conclude in 2023, but both companies have decided to prolong their collaboration for an additional three years.

Apple has long been one of Qualcomm’s key partners, contributing significantly to the chip manufacturer’s revenue, accounting for nearly a quarter of its income. Cupertino has been actively involved in the development of 5G modem technology, despite previous legal disputes over Qualcomm’s patents, which are slated to expire in 2029 and 2030.

With the continuation of their partnership to utilize Qualcomm’s 5G modems, Apple is positioning itself to potentially develop its own 5G modem technology. This advancement could eventually be integrated into its A-series chips, offering a streamlined solution with the advantages of improved battery life and enhanced performance.
