Qualcomm announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 at the end of 2022, and it has been used in several smartphones. Now, it seems we are moving towards the next generation, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which is expected to bring a 50% improvement in GPU performance.
For reference, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 comes with Adreno 740 GPU, which outperforms its main rival, Apple’s A16 Bionic SoC. However, that hasn’t stopped Qualcomm from pushing the performance of their GPU to the maximum.
As revealed by renowned tipster Digital Chat Station, the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset will be paired with Adreno 750 GPU. This GPU is claimed to have a 50% improvement in performance, which is twice as much as Adreno 740 on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Considering the significant performance gap between the GPU in SD8 Gen 2 and A16 Bionic, it is likely that Qualcomm will maintain its advantage over the upcoming A17 Bionic chipset in terms of GPU performance. For reference, the Antutu 9 benchmark shows that GPU performance of SD8 Gen 2 is 36% better than A16 Bionic.
However, in terms of efficiency, Qualcomm may lag behind as A17 Bionic is rumored to have already switched to TSMC’s 3nm fabrication process, while Qualcomm is still using the 4nm fabrication technology from TSMC.
