Rumor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Set to Launch in 2024

The development of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset is said to be in progress, indicating the current market interest and generation for contemporary chipset used in smartphones. How powerful will the chipset be?

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Will Be Equipped with LPDDR6

The rumor about Qualcomm developing its latest chipset, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, was reported by a Twitter leaker named OreXda, who informed that the chipset made on the 3nm (alias N3E) fabrication would bring several improvements. This includes LPDDR6 memory, which is said to be backed by the Korean giant, Samsung.

Based on the same tweet, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is said to be a pioneer for Qualcomm’s future chipsets. This is evidenced by the embedding of Oryon, a core specifically designed to support the chipset that is said to be launching in 2024.

The main feature offered by this chipset is none other than LPDDR6 memory, which is said to become the standard for future smartphones, and has been a highlight for Qualcomm to implement.

Quick Comparison with Apple M2 Chipset

It is not an innovation if the new Qualcomm chipset, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, does not bring any changes. This is evidenced by the GeekBench 5 score in a single-core scenario reaching 2,070 and a multi-core scenario reaching 9,100, which can be checked in the image below:

On the other hand, the GeekBench 5 score for MacBook Air (2022) in a single-core scenario reaches 2,560, and for multi-core, it can reach 9,565. This means that both chipsets are in a neck-to-neck competition with scores that are not too significant. Interestingly, this Qualcomm chipset still targets smartphones, which may bring massive Antutu scores.

However, the information related to the new Qualcomm chipset may still change in the future. It is reasonable, considering there is still at least one to two years from now, as new chipsets usually launch at the end of the year.
