Xiaomi is no stranger to the foldable phone industry. They have their Mix Fold lineup, which competes with the Galaxy Z Fold, although it is exclusively available in the Chinese market. Rumor has it that Xiaomi will also introduce a smaller foldable phone in the form of a flip or clamshell model in 2024.
This rumor comes from the renowned leaker Digital Chat Station. It is mentioned that the Chinese company is working on a vertically folding phone that is extremely lightweight and thin. However, it seems that Xiaomi’s flip phone will not be released in the near future, at least not until next year.
In 2021, Xiaomi was known to have obtained patent certifications for its clamshell foldable phone. The design of the phone is similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, with a relatively small external screen. While the external screen design was relevant at the time, it may not be as relevant now after two years have passed.
Current clamshell-style phones like the Oppo Find N2 Flip or Motorola Razr 40 Ultra have wide external screens, with the latter featuring a 3.6-inch external display. It is highly likely that Xiaomi will also provide a similar feature on its flip foldable phone.
Whether the “Xiaomi Mix Flip” will be released outside of China remains uncertain. Hopefully, it will, especially since Chinese brands have started launching their foldable phones in the global market, including Oppo and Motorola. Let’s wait and see!
