Samsung Electronics has announced that the company has commenced mass production of Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 3.1 memory solutions for the automotive industry, specifically optimized for in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems.
In their official release, Samsung states that the UFS 3.1 lineup for automotive applications will be available in variants of 120GB, 256GB, and 512GB to cater to diverse entertainment needs of users. These memory solutions have been optimized to enable more efficient battery management for future automotive applications such as electric or autonomous vehicles.
According to Samsung, for instance, the 256GB model has reduced power consumption by approximately 33% compared to the previous generation, along with sequential write speeds of 700MB/s and sequential read speeds of 2,000MB/s.
The new automotive-grade UFS 3.1 solutions meet the AEC-Q100 Grade2 requirements, a semiconductor quality standard for vehicles that ensures stable performance across a wide temperature range, from -40°C to 105°C.
Samsung plans to supply UFS 3.1 products to global automotive manufacturers and suppliers by the end of this year.
