Samsung has made a discreet move by disabling the High Bitrate option for recording 8K videos on the Galaxy S23 Ultra through a security update in June. The decision seems to have been driven by issues encountered with 8K video recordings, such as stuttering and choppiness, which were associated with the use of the High Bitrate setting.
The inclusion of 8K 30fps video recording was a significant enhancement for the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra lineup. Notably, Samsung also introduced the High Bitrate feature for 8K video recording, offering an impressive quality of up to 200Mbit/s.
However, according to reports from SamMobile, several users have noticed that the High Bitrate option still appears under “Advanced video options” in the camera settings. Nevertheless, the option now appears to be greyed out and remains unresponsive, preventing users from activating or utilizing it.
Curiously, Samsung has not provided any changelog or explanation regarding this change in the security update released in June. As a result, users are left in the dark about the reasons behind the removal of the High Bitrate 8K video recording option.
It is worth noting that some users had previously reported encountering issues while recording 8K 30fps videos with the High Bitrate enabled. This could potentially be the reason that prompted Samsung to disable the option to address the problem.
Despite the removal of the High Bitrate option, 8K video recording on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra remains accessible and appears to function smoothly without any apparent problems. While users may need to temporarily compromise and use the standard bitrate, many are hopeful that Samsung will soon roll out an update to address this issue and restore the High Bitrate functionality for an enhanced video recording experience.
