Sony Xperia 5 V (Mark 5) – Latest Compact Flagship Smartphone by Sony

Sony has just introduced its latest compact flagship smartphone, the Xperia 5 V (Mark 5), bringing some exciting improvements to the table. One notable enhancement comes in the form of a revamped camera system, even though the telephoto lens has been removed. Instead, Sony has incorporated a significantly larger primary sensor to elevate your photography experience.

In terms of design and display, the Sony Xperia 5 V retains its sleek and compact profile with a 6.1-inch FHD+ 120Hz OLED screen boasting a 21:9 aspect ratio. This device also offers front-facing stereo speakers for an immersive audio experience, making it an ideal choice for multimedia enthusiasts.

Beneath the surface, the Xperia 5 V is powered by Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, accompanied by 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, which can be expanded using a microSD card slot. Notably, Sony has preserved the 3.5mm audio jack, a feature increasingly rare in modern flagship smartphones, distinguishing the Xperia 5 V as a unique option for audiophiles.

Turning our attention to the camera system, Sony has made significant changes. While transitioning from a three-camera setup to dual cameras, they’ve upgraded the primary sensor to a formidable 52MP with a 1/1.35-inch sensor size, akin to the Xperia 1 V. This sensor excels at producing 12MP default captures at 24mm and offers a 2x zoom option (effectively 48mm), outperforming the telephoto sensor in the previous Xperia 5 IV generation.

The second camera is a 12MP ultra-wide sensor with a 1/2.5-inch size and a 16mm focal length, boasting dual-pixel autofocus. For selfie enthusiasts, the front-facing camera employs a 12MP sensor with a 1/2.9-inch size.

Physically, the Xperia 5 V is slightly heavier by 11 grams and thicker than its predecessor but is somewhat shorter. However, thanks to its 6.1-inch screen, the device maintains a compact form factor compared to other flagship smartphones.

The battery capacity remains unchanged at 5,000mAh, but Sony promises enhanced battery life, thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The device also supports 30W charging, which is available separately, with a claimed capability to charge from 0 to 50% in just 30 minutes. This new Xperia 5 V promises an exciting combination of features and improvements for smartphone enthusiasts.
