Spotify Wants to Bring Music Videos to Its Platform

Spotify, the music and podcast streaming service, reportedly wants to add full-length music video (MV) feature to its platform. This means that users will not only be able to listen to music on Spotify but also watch it through videos.

According to Bloomberg, Spotify is currently in talks with several potential partners to bring this feature to the platform. The specific “partners” are not mentioned, but it is likely that they are music license holders or labels.

Currently, video content on Spotify is limited to podcasts, 30-second storytelling clips for artists to promote their songs, and looping 10-second GIFs in a feature called Canvas. There is no full video experience for music on Spotify.

Meanwhile, rival Apple Music has been offering a similar feature on their platform for a long time. Furthermore, there is now YouTube Music that provides a seamless experience between listening to music and watching music videos simultaneously.

It is important for Spotify to catch up with this trend, especially considering that current content movements are more video-centric since the boom of TikTok. Spotify itself seems to have started their move by introducing a new feed layout with vertical scrolling, similar to TikTok, which will display music or podcast previews.

If the music video feature is indeed introduced on Spotify, it is possible that this feed will also appear on the user’s feed page. However, it is currently unknown when exactly this feature will be launched by Spotify.
