Nintendo Switch has lasted longer than any regular console generation. Currently, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser believes that despite the setbacks, the Switch still has plenty of time before its successor appears.
This was stated in an interview with The Associated Press at the Super Nintendo World attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood before its opening on February 17.
In the interview, the company president talked about how video games have become a prominent form of entertainment, especially during COVID-19.
He added that the industry has seen significant growth in recent years and there are future plans regarding Nintendo’s future.
The point raised in this article emerged when The Associated Press asked the executive about when the next Switch will be released.
In response to the question, Doug Bowser said:
“Entering the seventh year of Nintendo Switch, sales are still strong. I think we still have a very, very strong lineup. As Mr. Furukawa recently said, we are entering uncharted territory with that platform. It’s great to see that the demand is still there. So, there’s nothing to be announced for any console or device in the future, we still feel very optimistic about Nintendo Switch.”
“But what I can share is that one of the reasons we can even enter our seventh year and feel very confident that the Switch can perform well for a few years to come is because it’s still a truly unique device that you can play in various ways, at home or on the go.”
So, it seems that the President of Nintendo America is very confident that the Nintendo Switch will still survive for a few more years, thanks to its uniqueness as a hybrid console that functions well at home and as a portable device.
This confidence is further reinforced by the successful launch of game titles such as Metroid Prime 4, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and upcoming games such as Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon and The Legend of Zelda: Tear of the Kingdom.
It can be said that the console will still have good sales in 2023.
Whether that strength will continue or not after this year and the following years remains to be seen.
For now, at least we have a more concise answer about the new “next Switch” development.
