The Indication of Mediatek Rebranding Their Old Chipsets

In this era where everything demands newness and speed, it seems that success has driven one manufacturer to take an extreme step. Mediatek is rebranding their old chipsets by simply changing the numbers to a higher one. Although this is still just an indication, what could be the reason behind it?

The Indication of Mediatek Rebranding Their Old Chipsets

Information regarding the indication of Mediatek rebranding their chipsets was found through a tweet from the TechZoned account. They informed that all the chipsets that will be launched are just rebranding of their old chipsets.

Here are the lists of Mediatek’s chipsets that are suspected to be rebranding:

  • Mediatek Dimensity 700 is Mediatek Dimensity 6020
  • Mediatek Dimensity 810 is Mediatek Dimensity 6080
  • Mediatek Dimensity 930 is Mediatek Dimensity 7020
  • Mediatek Dimensity 1080 is Mediatek Dimensity 8020

Curious, we tried to search for information about the basic details of a specific mobile chipset from one of the sites. True enough, Mediatek is actually rebranding a series of their chipsets because based on what we found, almost all of their core specs are identical.

There are only a few changes, just numbers that are larger and truly very minor and not noticeable at all.

One example can be seen above, where the Mediatek Dimensity 6020 chipset is identical to the Mediatek Dimensity 700 chipset. Even according to Antutu scores, the two chipsets have only a small difference. Dimensity 6020 scores around 352,000 while Dimensity 700 reaches around 342,000.

Not only that, in GeekBench5 testing, their scores are also only slightly different. The Dimensity 6020 chipset generates a single-core score of 603 and multi-core 1,757, while the Dimensity 700 chipset produces a single-core score of 565 and multi-core 1,746.

Not Confirmed by Mediatek Yet

As of writing about the indication of Mediatek rebranding their old chipsets, it has not been confirmed by the relevant parties. However, this clearly concerns the credibility of the brand, which can determine the choice of potential consumers before buying a smartphone.

And even if this is related to a strategy or technique in marketing smartphones, wouldn’t it be better if it is done more subtly so that it doesn’t seem to force the specs? But once again, we emphasize that this is still just an indication.
