Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 12 series in China last year and recently introduced several Android smartphones from the series in India. There are five Android smartphones under the Redmi Note 12 series, and each can connect to 5G networks.
The Redmi Note 12 4G could be the only Android smartphone in the Redmi Note 12 series that is limited to 4G networks, even in China. Live images and a short unboxing video of the Redmi smartphone have leaked online, confirming its specifications, design, and color options.
The Redmi Note 12 4G could be the world’s first Android smartphone with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 SoC.
As its name suggests, the Snapdragon 685 will have some improvements over the Snapdragon 680 SoC. However, because the chipset does not have a 5G modem, it is not eligible for branding as Snapdragon 69X or Snapdragon 7XX.
Xiaomi has not officially confirmed the existence of the Redmi Note 12 4G. Nevertheless, leaked images suggest that Xiaomi has an active production device.
The Redmi Note 12 4G will feature a Full HD+ OLED 6.67-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels.
The screen is expected to have a 13MP selfie camera on the front, located in a punch-hole cutout in the middle.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 SoC powering the Redmi Note 12 4G will be accompanied by 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
Xiaomi may offer a variant of the Redmi Note 12 4G with 6GB of RAM, but this model’s internal storage may remain at 128GB. Onboard storage can be expanded by inserting a microSD card.
The Redmi Note 12 4G has a three-camera setup on the back, consisting of a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro camera. As mentioned above, the smartphone has a 13MP front-facing camera for selfies, video calls, and face unlock.
Xiaomi is reported to have embedded a 5000mAh battery inside the Redmi Note 12 4G, which will support 33W fast wired charging via a USB Type-C port, which will also offer data transfer.
The Redmi Note 12 is reported to feature a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.
The smartphone is expected to have an IP53 rating for resistance to dust and water splashes. The handset weighs 183.5 grams and measures 165.66 x 75.96 x 7.85 mm, according to a report.
Price and Availability
The Redmi Note 12 4G smartphone is reported to be available in three color options: Onyx Grey, Mint Green, and Ice Blue. The device may be priced at €279 (around $299 USD) for the 4GB + 128GB variant.
The Redmi Note 12 4G will arrive in China. However, since the device is limited to 4G networks, Xiaomi may limit the smartphone’s launch to certain markets.
