Translate Feature Now Available in Gmail for Android and iOS

Google has taken a significant step by integrating a native translation feature into Gmail for both Android and iOS platforms. This enhancement empowers users to seamlessly translate email content within the Gmail app on their smartphones.

Although this translation functionality has been a part of the web version of Gmail for a while, it has only recently made its debut on Android through an update launched on August 8, 2023. iOS users, on the other hand, can anticipate the feature to start rolling out from August 21 onwards.

In a manner reminiscent of its web counterpart, an identifying banner will grace the top of emails written in foreign languages.

Subsequently, users will be presented with supplementary choices if they opt to have the email automatically translated into the detected language. The user-friendly design allows for the dismissal of the banner at will, or alternatively, it provides the “never translate” option for specific languages where the banner may be an inconvenience.

Although seemingly straightforward, this feature bears immense convenience, particularly for individuals habitually accessing emails via their smartphone apps. The manual efforts that went into translating content are now rendered obsolete.

Leveraging the same formidable engine as Google Translate, the languages supported by the feature remain consistent. The lineup includes not only Indonesian and English but also encompasses Korean, Chinese, Arabic, and over 100 other languages used worldwide.
