Since the emergence of AI that can generate images, for some reason, there have been many technology companies that have started implementing AI (artificial intelligence) in their products, such as ChatGPT that can generate text or essays, Bard AI that comes from Google, and Synthesia that can generate videos.
As it turns out, the video game industry also doesn’t want to be left behind in creating AI tools to help with their work, where Ubisoft will soon release a tool called Ghostwriter to assist the work of their scriptwriting teams at the developer.
Ubisoft Ghostwriter: AI-powered Tools to Assist Scriptwriters
This tool was developed by Ubisoft La Forge team, using AI technology to generate sentences and words spoken by NPCs as players explore the game’s world. The aim of this tool is to shorten the time and reduce the repetitive tasks of scriptwriters in writing NPC dialogues and interactions, creating a more realistic atmosphere.
The tool’s operation is quite simple, where scriptwriters will write several variables they want to generate in the conversation. Then the tool will provide several conversation options that can be chosen, saving time as the scriptwriting team only needs to choose which sentences fit without having to type them manually.
Receiving Negative Reactions from Other Developers
When this was announced, some game developers reacted negatively to the tool and advised Ubisoft to invest in human writers rather than spending resources on an AI writer. One of them was Alanah Pearce from Sony Santa Monica Studios, who stated in a tweet that editing dialogue from AI takes more time than writing the dialogue manually.
