WhatsApp Web Introduces Upcoming Screen Lock Feature

Messaging applications continually evolve to prioritize security, and WhatsApp is no exception. It has established an array of security and privacy provisions for its users, although not all these features have been extended to its desktop counterpart.

Recently, a leak has surfaced, hinting at an upcoming security enhancement for WhatsApp Web, namely the integration of a Screen Lock feature. This new addition aims to empower users to safeguard their WhatsApp Web interface by implementing a lock mechanism. Unauthorized access will be thwarted without the input of the pre-established password.

To activate this impending feature, users are required to update their WhatsApp Web Beta version to the latest iteration and participate in the Beta Official Program. Once enabled, the secure cloak of a password will envelop the WhatsApp Web conversation page, bolstering privacy.

Much akin to its mobile counterpart, the screen lock feature remains customizable, enabling users to dictate its frequency and appearance. In the event that a user encounters password amnesia, the solution involves logging out of WhatsApp Web and initiating a fresh session by scanning the QR code anew.

Given its current beta phase, the introduction of this feature won’t be simultaneous for all users. Nevertheless, the expectation lingers that the Screen Lock feature will gradually integrate into the public iteration of WhatsApp Web in the forthcoming period.
