System updates don’t always bring good news, as we can see with the latest Windows 11 update named “Moment 2,” which has been found to potentially slow down SSD speed significantly.
Recently, some users of Microsoft’s newest operating system have been surprised by a new feature where the latest Windows 11 update has been found to slow down SSD speed.
The impact of this latest Windows 11 update is quite significant. One Reddit user named mesp21 reported that the speed of their SSD dropped from around 7,000MB/s to 3,000MB/s, and even down to 1,000MB/s on their gaming laptop.
To confirm the issue, another user named MrBigDog99 reported the same thing. He too was a “victim” of the Windows 11 update that slowed down the performance of his SSD and shared some pictures that you can see below.
From the pictures he shared, there was a significant decrease in speed. Before and after the update, there was a difference of at least forty percent.
To solve this problem caused by the latest Windows 11 update that can potentially slow down SSD speed, we are required to roll back the update we previously installed, just like what MrBigDog99 did.
According to Microsoft’s official update catalog, this issue occurs when users update with the serial number KB5023706 or better known as “Moment 2.”
Interestingly, this is not the first time this has happened, as Microsoft has previously encountered similar problems with updates with different serial numbers. To roll back the update, follow these steps:
- Press Start, then press Settings
- On the bottom left, press Windows Update
- Select Update History
- Look for the Uninstall Updates section, then press it
- Select KB5023706, then press the Uninstall button
- After you finish the uninstallation process, restart your computer, and when you check again, the SSD speed should return to normal.
