Xiaomi’s highly anticipated foldable phone, the MIX Fold 3, has been announced and is set to enter the market in August.
One of the main highlights of this device is its full optical range quad-camera system, developed in collaboration with Leica. This makes the MIX Fold 3 the first foldable phone from Xiaomi to feature four rear cameras.
The collaboration aims to bring significant advancements in mobile imaging, with a focus on miniaturization to achieve top-notch imaging performance in a slim and lightweight design.
While the camera specifications have not been disclosed, the quad-camera setup is rumored to include a primary Sony IMX800 sensor, an ultra-wide lens, a telephoto camera with 3.2x optical zoom, and a periscope telephoto lens with 5x zoom. Currently, only Vivo and Huawei offer foldable devices with four rear cameras, featuring wide, ultrawide, and two telephoto lenses, one with a periscope lens.
The MIX Fold 3 features a stylish curved white glass body and will sport a foldable 8.02-inch AMOLED QHD+ main display with 120Hz refresh rate, along with a 6.56-inch AMOLED FHD+ cover display with 120Hz refresh rate. There are also rumors of an under-display camera integrated into the internal screen, adding to the phone’s appeal.
The device will also implement a new waterdrop hinge to maintain its slim profile and enhance durability.
Under the hood, the phone is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, coupled with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and potentially up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. Operating on Android 13 with the MIUI Fold 14.1 overlay, the MIX Fold 3 promises an optimized foldable device experience.
The upcoming Xiaomi device is expected to come with a 4,800mAh battery supporting 67W fast charging and 50W wireless charging, as certified by 3C. Additionally, a recent MIIT certification confirms that the device will support 5G connectivity.
