Xiaomi took the tech world by storm with the official announcement of the Mix Fold 3 on August 14, 2023, exclusively in China. However, a surprising twist has emerged: Xiaomi has declared that this innovative third-generation foldable phone won’t be making its way onto international markets.
This revelation comes directly from the lips of Xiaomi’s Director of Communications, Daniel Desjarlais. According to him, the highly anticipated Mix Fold 3 is destined solely for the Chinese market, mirroring the approach adopted for its two predecessors.

Despite the intrigue surrounding this decision, Xiaomi’s reasons for steering clear of the global foldable phone scene remain shrouded in mystery. This hesitation is somewhat perplexing given the evident appeal of this technology, with prominent manufacturers embracing foldable devices worldwide.
While Samsung has long been a dominant player in this niche, other Chinese brands like Oppo, Huawei, Motorola, and even Tecno have ventured into the international arena with their own foldable offerings.
Exciting developments are on the horizon as well. OnePlus is on the verge of launching its much-anticipated foldable device, the OnePlus Open, further igniting the foldable phone competition. Similarly, Honor is poised to make its mark with the upcoming global release of the Honor Magic V2 on September 1st.
Looking at the Mix Fold 3 itself, Xiaomi has poured in impressive specifications. The device boasts a striking 8.03-inch LTPO AMOLED internal display complemented by a 6.56-inch external screen. Under the hood, it harnesses the might of an overclocked Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.
The camera setup is equally remarkable, featuring four lenses on the rear – a 50MP OIS, a 10MP OIS telephoto lens with 3.2x zoom, a 10MP OIS periscope lens offering 5x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. Furthermore, a 20MP camera graces the internal display, while another serves the external screen, promising an enhanced visual experience.
As Xiaomi charts a unique course by keeping the Mix Fold 3 within the boundaries of China, the tech community remains intrigued by the potential future dynamics of the foldable phone market.
