Xiaomi is reportedly working on a groundbreaking smartphone that does away with all physical buttons. This innovative device, codenamed “Zhuque,” is expected to hit the market in the first half of 2025 and features a design that completely removes traditional buttons, offering a sleek, uninterrupted surface.
Instead of physical buttons, Xiaomi might utilize a combination of gesture controls, voice commands, and pressure-sensitive sensors embedded in the phone’s frame. This would create a unique user experience, moving away from conventional designs towards a more futuristic, minimalistic approach.
While the idea of a buttonless phone isn’t entirely new—Meizu released the “Meizu Zero” in 2019, which also lacked physical buttons—the concept did not catch on, leading to the product being discontinued. Xiaomi seems to be refining this concept with a more advanced design and better technology.
Apart from the buttonless design, the “Zhuque” is rumored to feature an under-display selfie camera. This means the front of the phone will have no visible camera hole, allowing for a completely unobstructed display and enhancing the device’s visual appeal and functionality.
On the performance front, the “Zhuque” is expected to be a flagship device powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 4 chipset. This chipset, which is an overclocked version of the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, promises top-tier performance and efficiency, making it suitable for users who need high-speed processing and robust multitasking capabilities.
Currently, the “Zhuque” is still in its development phase, so detailed information is sparse. However, the big question remains whether this innovative design will resonate with consumers or follow the same path as the Meizu Zero, which struggled to gain market traction.
