Geekbench Scores Leak for Snapdragon 8 Gen 3: Is Performance Falling Short?

As anticipation builds for Qualcomm’s imminent announcement of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, various leaks surrounding this flagship SoC have already made their way into the tech world. Typically, before the official launch, SoCs like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 undergo testing on various platforms. Recently, benchmark scores for this highly anticipated SoC have surfaced, shedding light on its potential performance.

Leaked via ASUS ROG Phone 8 Ultimate

The benchmark scores in question appear to be associated with a device believed to be the ASUS ROG Phone 8 Ultimate. This device, slated to succeed the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, underwent benchmark testing using the Geekbench 6 benchmark application. Impressively, it boasts a substantial 16GB of RAM.

In terms of performance, the results are notable but not groundbreaking. The device achieved a single-core score of approximately 2,213 and a multi-core score of around 7,048. While these scores are respectable, they fall short of claiming the top spot in the current benchmark rankings.

Comparison with iPhone 15 Pro

Notably, these scores place the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 behind the iPhone 15 Pro, which features Apple’s A17 Pro Bionic SoC. In previous benchmark leaks, the A17 Bionic showcased a single-core score of 3,269 points and a multi-core score of 7,666 points. This comparison suggests that the A17 Pro outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 by up to 32 percent in single-core performance.

Caution in Interpretation

However, it’s essential to exercise caution when interpreting these benchmark scores. The tested device is still in the experimental phase and does not represent a final product, whether in terms of the SoC or the smartphone itself.

The official unveiling of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is slated for October, slightly earlier than previous generations. Qualcomm traditionally hosts the launch event for its latest SoC, known as the Snapdragon Summit, typically held in December or, as was the case last year, in November.
